THE ICONICIOTA NU NU

ABOUT IOTA NU NU

Built in brotherhood. Rooted in service.

The story of the Iconic Iota Nu Nu Chapter is a story of vision, perseverance and collective action — from an idea shared among brothers in Greenville to a chartered chapter serving Pitt County and communities across Eastern North Carolina.

OUR BEGINNING

A new chapter for Greenville.

Iota Nu Nu did not begin with a ceremony. It began with conversations among Omega men who believed Greenville and the surrounding Pitt County community could be served by a new graduate chapter.

Early organizing included a small gathering at Brother Freddie Outterbridge’s home and additional planning at Pitt Community College. The work continued through the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic, requiring the same perseverance the fraternity names among its Cardinal Principles.

By February 2021, that organizing effort had become the Iconic Iota Nu Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The timeline below preserves the major milestones in that journey.

Chapter History

From vision to charter — and beyond.

The chapter’s history is best understood as a sequence of distinct milestones: organizing, official approval, charter presentation and continued growth.

Early organizing

2020

A vision for a new chapter takes shape.

The chapter’s remembered history traces the effort to a small group of Omega men meeting in Greenville, including an early gathering at Brother Freddie Outterbridge’s home and subsequent planning at Pitt Community College. Those conversations helped turn the idea of a new graduate chapter serving Pitt County into an organized effort.

The organizing meeting

August 27, 2020

Fifteen Omega men gather at Pitt Community College.

At 7:00 p.m. in Joyner Auditorium at Pitt Community College, fifteen members of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. assembled to advance the concept of establishing a new chapter in the Greenville area. This was an organizing milestone, not the chapter’s formal charter date.

The charter

Iota Nu Nu receives official approval.

Following Sixth District review, approval by District Representative Brother Kurt Walker and submission to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. International Headquarters, Iota Nu Nu received official approval dated February 1, 2021. The chapter’s existing historical record identifies 31 charter members.

The presentation

May 21, 2021

A chartering ceremony was held at the Greenville Convention Center with 28 members on the chapter roster for the ceremony. District Representative Brother Alfonzo White formally presented Iota Nu Nu with its official charter.

The next generation

Fall 2021

The chapter welcomes its first line.

Later that year, Iota Nu Nu welcomed its first line of nine new members, beginning the next chapter of growth, brotherhood and service for the newly chartered chapter.

The Charter

The document that made it official.

The chapter’s founding story is preserved not only in dates and recollections, but in the artifacts of the chartering itself.
